Castlegar NS is very fortunate to have 22 iPads and 27 Lenovo Laptops. All classes within the school use technology on a weekly basis to support their learning in many areas of the curriculum. On Wednesdays after school we also run a Computer Club for pupils from 3rd to 6th class who wish to further enhance their computing skills.
The focus of the after school club is Computer Coding. The pupils have been coding with Pyonkee on the iPads and Scratch on the laptops. Both Pyonkee and Scratch gradually introduce coding concepts to allow young people to build their knowledge incrementally. They teach computational thinking and problem solving using a simple-to-use, yet powerful, building block approach to software development.
